Spring Newsletter 2022

January 1, 2022

Dear Parents & Students

Hopefully, everyone has had a restful winter break; I have been busy planning our spring semester and am looking forward to seeing everyone beginning the week of January 10th.

New this semester, you can download, sign and re-upload the Covid-19 release form and the Photo and Video release form from my website: www.gilyahodos.com. Please be sure to sign and return both these forms at the first lesson beginning the week of January 10th.

I am looking forward to reinstating our Piano Ensemble Festival. I have heard from some parents that they are open to ensemble playing. If you have not yet responded to my request to permit your child to participate in ensemble work, please do so immediately. Choosing the correct repertoire with the right partner takes planning on my part. The final ensemble performances will be videoed so that whether the Spring Recital is in person or not, we will still have an opportunity to hear these performances.

With some good luck, perhaps in the mid to late spring, we will be able to attend a live performance together. I have not yet scheduled anything because at the time of writing this newsletter, the current Covid-19 situation is uncertain. My hope is to have one or two  Musicianship Classes which will be held outside, where we can learn about the composers and music we will be hearing at a concert still to be determined.

Our Spring Recital is scheduled for Sunday, June 19th at 10am. Please mark your calendars!! We will play it by ear if this will be an in-person or virtual event. One advantage of a virtual recital is that friends and family from afar can join us. While I missed the in-person atmosphere of our Winter Recital, it was wonderful to see so many people log in to support our wonderful musicians.

As in the fall, I am committing to in-person lessons throughout the semester, barring unforeseen circumstances. I would ask that you please be very mindful of sending your children to my home if you or they have come into contact with someone who is Covid positive. I am caring for my elderly father and need to be mindful of his health needs.

We will continue with the same safety protocols as we did last spring:

1.    Students must wash hands PRIOR to arriving for their lessons.

2.    Students will be given hand sanitizer when they arrive. This is NOT a substitute for hand washing!

3.    Piano keys will be sanitized in between each lesson.

4.    Anyone entering the studio MUST WEAR A MASK.

5.    Please use the restroom BEFORE arriving at the studio as I cannot allow anyone to leave the studio area.

Despite the Covid related inconveniences, I know we will have exciting, music-filled learning experience this spring! I have lots of different learning modalities that will help us explore our musical world and I am eager to dive into our musical explorations together!!

Looking forward to seeing everyone beginning Monday, January 10th, 2022!

All the best,

Gilya
